The Senior Care, Wellness & Medical Tourism Conference hosted at the Polish Consulate in New York City took place on January 23, 2026, organized by the Society of Polish American Travel Agents (SPATA) in collaboration with the Polish National Tourism Office. The extraordinary event garnered so much interest that it spilled out of the main conference room and required additional seating for guests flying in from outside of the United States. Speakers included highly decorated medical and hospitality professionals that fully covered the complex geography of medical tourism, wellness facilities and services, and long-term and senior care. Distinguished speakers offered their expertise on everything from:

new mobile and online applications designed to simplify the entire process of virtual and in-person consultations, selecting doctors and services, and preparing travel from abroad,

explaining how they set up cross-border cooperation for medical procedures, including having domestic insurance plans cover outside of country procedures
novel therapies being offered in Poland’s top travel destinations such as Wieliczka Salt Mine, where innovative medical research is taking place such as Subterraneotherapy and Climatotherapy
many additional topics that educate and prepare guests from zero knowledge to fully functioning medical tourism agencies and representatives operating in the United States, as well as opportunities for graduating and established medical professionals

The conference was produced and headed by Master of Ceremonies Miłosz Pierwoła, Esq. who energized the crowd and excitedly introduced and summarized each speaker to raucous applause. The first speaker was the honorary Consul General of the Republic of Poland in New York, Mateusz Sakowicz, who sparked the crowd with an inspiring invitation towards Poland as the medical tourism capital of the future. SPATA would like to express deep gratitude to the Consul General and the Polish Consulate of New York for providing the space and opportunity for this critical conference. The second speaker was SPATA President Honorata Pierwoła who painted a picture of Poland’s investment over the past several decades that positioned it as one of the most attractive destinations for medical and wellness services in the world. Third, but certainly not least, was Paula Fanderowska who was selected to head the Polish National Tourism Office of the United States and Canada for her unequaled success in driving titanic initiatives to promote Polonia interests on the world stage. Paula expressed her devotion and offer of collaboration from her office on all initiatives moving forward, to support individuals and organizations that take the lead to meet Poland’s goal of becoming the medical tourism and wellness capital of the world.

The audience was treated to some of the top professionals in their field from Poland who have achieved unparalleled international success in the field of medical tourism and wellness services. Biographies of each speaker are available below. Speakers fully covered every area of knowledge neccessary to start a medical tourism business in the United States and connect directly into the robust network operating in the European Union.

EN – Associate Professor Joanna Głogowska-Szeląg, MD, PhD, is a graduate of the Faculty of Medicine in Zabrze at the Silesian Medical University. During her studies, she was actively involved in the Student Scientific Society, serving on its board and co-organizing scientific sessions and research camps. These experiences resulted in her first scientific publications, which were presented at annual university, national, and international scientific conferences of the Student Scientific Society.

After graduation, she began working at the Department of Pathophysiology and Endocrinology of the Silesian Medical University, where she earned her doctorate in medical sciences with distinction, and subsequently her habilitation degree.

She specializes in internal medicine, rheumatology, and balneoclimatology and physical medicine.

She worked in the Thyroid Diseases Clinic and the Osteoporosis Treatment Clinic, and co-founded the Endocrinology, Rheumatology, and Rehabilitation Clinic in Katowice.

She was the Chief Physician of the WORR Health Resort in Goczałkowice-Zdrój, where she organized the ultrasound laboratory and participated in the modernization of the balneological and rehabilitation facilities.

She was a co-organizer and co-host of the Silesian Health Resort Meetings as part of the Second Congress of the Polish Society of Photodynamic and Laser Medicine.

She participated in national and international courses, including those in Warsaw, Zakopane, Cyprus, and Spain (SCOPE Course for Specialists in Cardiovascular Medicine).

She has repeatedly participated in scientific conferences and congresses, including… in Vienna, Copenhagen, Barcelona, Rio de Janeiro, Heraklion, and Krakow.

She obtained an IOF (International Osteoporosis Foundation) certificate in clinical densitometry and completed an ultrasound course in orthopedics and rheumatology.

She is a member of the State Examination Commission in the field of Balneology and Physical Medicine.

She is the author of numerous scientific papers published in Poland and abroad. She presented her research findings at numerous scientific conferences, including those in the Czech Republic, Denmark, Italy, the USA, Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal, Greece, Sweden, Switzerland, China, and Poland.

She co-organized symposia and conferences, and was the Scientific Director of courses for doctors organized by the Silesian Medical Chamber in Katowice, as well as symposia for patients on osteoporosis and rheumatology.

She is a co-founder of the “Association for the Prevention of Obesity, Thyroid Diseases and Metabolic Diseases” (A Member Of The International Federation For The Surgery Of Obesity; IFSO) and a founding member of the “Silesian Endocrinology” Association.

She is a member of scientific societies in Poland and abroad, and a reviewer of papers submitted to the Polish Journal of Endocrinology.

She conducts exercises, seminars, and lectures for students of the medical faculty, the dental department, and emergency medicine.

She actively participates in postgraduate training for doctors as a lecturer in postgraduate courses and training programs in osteoporosis, rheumatology, and endocrinology, as well as training courses in the field of balneology and physical medicine, conducting specialization courses in balneology and physical medicine, and immunology.

Professor Joanna Głogowska-Szeląg is also a Reviewer of publications in journals such as Acta Balneologica, Polish Journal of Endocrinology, Wiadomości Lekarskie, and Psychiatria Polska.

PL – Doc. dr hab. n.med. Joanna Głogowska-Szeląg jest absolwentką Wydziału Lekarskiego w Zabrzu Śląskiej Akademii Medycznej. Już w trakcie studiów aktywnie działała w Kole Naukowym Studenckiego Towarzystwa Naukowego, była członkiem Zarządu STN i współorganizowała sesje STN Śląskiej Akademii Medycznej oraz wyjazdowe obozy naukowe STN. Rezultatem tych doświadczeń były wyróżniane, pierwsze doniesienia naukowe prezentowane na dorocznych uczelnianych, krajowych i zagranicznych sesjach naukowych STN.

Po uzyskaniu dyplomu rozpoczęła pracę w Katedrze Patofizjologii i Endokrynologii Śląskiego Uniwersytetu Medycznego gdzie po obronionej z wyróżnieniem pracy doktorskiej, uzyskała stopień doktora nauk medycznych po obronionej z wyróżnieniem pracy doktorskiej, a po przebyciu wszystkich procedur doktora habilitowanego.

Posiada specjalizację w zakresie chorób wewnętrznych, reumatologii i z zakresu balneoklimatologii i medycyny fizykalnej.

Pracowała w Poradni Chorób Tarczycy, Leczenia Osteoporozy, współtworzyła Poradnię Endokrynologiczną, Reumatologiczną i Rehabilitacji w Katowicach.

Była Lekarzem Naczelnym WORR Uzdrowiska Goczałkowice – Zdrój, gdzie zorganizowała pracownię USG i współdziała przy modernizacji bazy balnelogiczno-rehabilitacyjnej.

Była współorganizatorem I współgospodarzem Śląskich Spotkań Uzdrowiskowych w ramach II Kongresu Polskiego Towarzystwa Medycyny Fotodynamicznej i Laserowej.

Uczestniczyła w kursach krajowych i zagranicznych m.in. w Warszawie, Zakopanem, na Cyprze, w Hiszpanii w kursie SCOPE Course for Specjalist in Cardiovascular Medicine.

Była współorganizatorem sympozjów i zjazdów, Kierownikiem Naukowym kursów dla lekarzy organizowanych przez Śląską Izbę Lekarską w Katowicach oraz sympozjów dla pacjentów z zakresu osteoporozy i reumatologii.

EN – Magdalena Kostrzon, PhD in Health Sciences – Deputy Director for Research and Development at the ‘Wieliczka’ Salt Mine Health Resort. She specialises in the development of health tourism, combining pulmonary rehabilitation and climatotherapy. Over the course of her long-term employment at the Wieliczka Salt Mine Health Resort, Dr. Kostrzon has assumed responsibility for scientific and research partnerships, the strategic development of medical programs, and the international promotion of the health resort’s therapeutic offerings.

Author of publications on the properties of the climate in salt mines and the effectiveness of subterraneotherapy. Dr. Kostrzon earned her doctoral degree from the Jagiellonian University Medical College and completed postgraduate studies in medical services management. In addition to her research activities, she coorganizes international scientific conferences and actively contributes to professional forums, promoting innovation and development within the health and medical sectors.

– Zastępca Dyrektora ds. Badań i Rozwoju w Uzdrowisku Kopalnia Soli „Wieliczka”. Specjalizuje się w rozwoju turystyki zdrowotnej, łączącej rehabilitację pulmonologiczną i klimatoterapię. Od wielu lat związana zawodowo z Uzdrowiskiem Kopalnia Soli „Wieliczka” – odpowiada za współpracę naukowo-badawczą, rozwój działalności medycznej oraz kształtowanie oferty uzdrowiskowej na rynkach zagranicznych. Autorka publikacji dotyczących właściwości klimatu wyrobisk solnych i skuteczności subterraneoterapii. Doktorat obroniła na Uniwersytecie Jagiellońskim Collegium Medicum, ukończyła także studia podyplomowe z zarządzania usługami medycznymi. Współorganizatorka międzynarodowych wydarzeń naukowych o zasięgu międzynarodowym, aktywnie uczestniczy w konferencjach medycznych i działaniach rozwojowych w branży zdrowotnej.

EN – Director of the Wieliczka Salt Mine Health Resort. A graduate of the Faculty of Management at the University of Economics in Krakow and MBA in Public Management at the Krakow School of Business at the University of Economics. She has many years of experience in the insurance industry, including technical and travel insurance. She has been involved in the tourism and culture sector for many years, collaborating on the organization of international festivals and conferences at the Krakow Festival Office, which allowed her to gain practical knowledge in the field of destination promotion and tourism event management. As a publisher of social and cultural magazines, she has actively participated in shaping the image of the region, combining her management skills with her experience in developing tourist offerings.

PL – Dyrektor Uzdrowiska Kopalnia Soli „Wieliczka”. Absolwentka Wydziału Zarządzania Uniwersytetu Ekonomicznego w Krakowie oraz studiów MBA in Public Management w Krakowskiej Szkole Biznesu UEK. Posiada wieloletnie doświadczenie w branży ubezpieczeniowej, w tym w zakresie ubezpieczeń technicznych i turystycznych. Od lat związana z sektorem turystyki i kultury – współpracowała przy organizacji międzynarodowych festiwali i konferencji w Krakowskim Biurze Festiwalowym, co pozwoliło jej zdobyć praktyczną wiedzę w zakresie promocji destynacji i zarządzania wydarzeniami turystycznymi. EN – Dr. Karina Przybyło-Kisielewska – Vice President of the Management Board of the Bristol Hotel **** Art.&Medical Spa in Busko-Zdrój and the Fontia Balneology, Health, and Prehabilitation Clinic.
Doctor of health sciences, graduate of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow. Academic lecturer in Health Tourism at the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences of Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce. She completed postgraduate studies in Wellness & Spa Hotel Management and Healthcare Management. Teacher and supervisor of professional practices and internships for students of secondary schools specializing in hotel and catering services. Co-creator and implementer of 4 research and development projects in the field of defining new, innovative directions in spa treatment. Author of therapeutic tourism products: Sulphur Reduction Diet and Femitherapy.
Coordinator of hotel investments. She launched and introduced 4 hotel facilities to the tourism market.

Nauczyciel i opiekun praktyk zawodowych oraz staży dla uczniów szkół średnich o profilu hotelarskim i gastronomicznym. EN – Joanna Józefiak is the President of MEDICINER – International Healthcare Association, an organization dedicated to building international cooperation in healthcare, medical tourism, and cross-border healthcare systems.

She is also the Founder and initiator of the first Polish-German Medical Center Brandmed, as well as the creator and initiator of several international medical and healthcare projects focused on cross-border cooperation, institutional partnerships, and system-level solutions. In addition, she is responsible for international cooperation at the Poznań Medical Academy of Mieszko I.With extensive experience in developing and leading international healthcare initiatives, Joanna Józefiak specializes in building strategic partnerships between medical institutions, public stakeholders, and the private sector. Her work focuses on improving access to innovative medical solutions, strengthening international patient pathways, and creating sustainable models of international healthcare cooperation between Europe and the United States.

EN – Magdalena Korsak Sabino Belo is a manager at the Collegium Medicum of Jan Długosz University, where she focuses on international medical education and academic-clinical management within the European and global context. She is responsible for student and staff mobility and agreements with foreign academic partners, including those in Malta, Spain, and Italy. She actively organizes international scientific conferences and expert events. She is also involved in expanding the Polonia Medica project, a linked health device, and a connected and additional mobile device with an additional connection to the device.

History of SPATA Exhibition

Establishing the foundation for this conference was the History of SPATA Exhibition by Miłosz Pierwoła, Esq. that underscored the importance of starting on this medical tourism initiative. The exhibit documents how an unlikely group of Polish-American travel agents that started a similar initiative in tourism grew their project into one of the most successful Polish organizations in the world and became some of the most influential global Polish ambassadors that shaped international policy, world economics, and Poland’s image on the world stage. This inspiring exhibit ignited the ambitions of the crowd and paid respects to the heights that Polish people can achieve when they focus on a common goal.

The exhibit is based on archives maintained by SPATA Secretary **Zofia Strzałka**.

The exhibition premiered in the Polish Embassy in The Hague, Netherlands, in Poland at the Future Tourism Congress in Kołobrzeg, and now in the United States at the Polish Consulate in New York City. Miłosz Pierwoła, Esq.’s biography is below.

EN – MIŁOSZ PIERWOŁA, ESQ. is an artist who specializes in collaborating with official government entities to promote themes of national identity to international audiences. Miłosz’s exhibitions create vibrant contexts for special events, highlight key figures, and focus on communicating complex cultural concepts to multinational audiences who may not understand an exhibition’s native language. Miłosz’s expertise communicating in sensitive international contexts stems from his role as an attorney in New York and New Jersey, as well as international lawyer at the Royal Courts of Justice in London and the Constitutional Court of South Africa. Miłosz also founded a non-profit that achieved world records operating in sensitive regions and navigated relations between the United States, Nepal, Iraq, Romania, and a host of other countries.
As an artist, Miłosz became active in 2014 and demonstrated expansive creativity in filling challenging spaces with unforgettable meaning. Upon returning from Mt. Everest in 2018, Miłosz was commissioned to produce a $2M month long exhibition featuring a White House artist in the gallery district of New York City. Modeling his productions on this extraordinary success, he constructs a bridge that attracts targeted audiences and stands out in memory. In his art, Miłosz weaves a precise message using context and emotion, incorporating aesthetically captivating photographs with deep recognizable cultural and historic themes.
