SPATA Convention: Gouda & Bruges

Polish people have a famous treasure that is protected under UNESCO laws – Oscypek Mountain Sheep’s Milk Cheese produced in the Podhale region of Poland.

Now, imagine what a treat it is for the Society of Polish-American Travel Agents and their guests to visit Gouda – home of the world famous cheese of the same name. Arriving in the morning, the group had a chance to explore the town square, where they found the Gouda Cheese Museum. The market had plenty of exciting high-quality products for unbeatable prices – including Chanel dress fabric for 1€ per meter! However, the biggest surprise was the Polski Sklep, where every visitor could hear a familiar Easter European accent as they were greeted with a dzień dobry as they walked in. SPATA Conventioners always wish for these trips to be longer, so that they can spend more time in places just like this, however we must go on with the next destination in Bruges, Belgium.

KLIKNIJ NA ZDJĘCIE!

Bruges is on a different level for any traveler. This city feels like it is from a fairy tale or legendary novel, it is the home of Europe’s beer empire and the economic center of political and business power complete with its own unbelievable histories of nobles, kings, and religious leaders. The entire city is walled off and preserved into a walkable paradise, with glamorous gilded buildings showing off architecture from hundreds of years past. Nearly every corner feels like stepping into a post card, and the city square is probably one of the most beautiful in the world. Stepping out into this space makes an impression on anyone, even the veteran world explorers part of our group. While here, don’t miss out on the beer, the chocolate and desserts, and definitely the local goulash – preferably all in one meal!

Igor Murawski, Polish speaking guide to Bruges, OLD BRUGES B&B and Tours.

SPATA would like to extend a very special Thank You to Igor Murawski, our tour guide from Old Bruges B&B and Tours. Igor knows his beer history just as much as he knows every corner of this wonderful place, and was able to fit a week’s worth of regional and historical knowledge into just one afternoon. If you are looking for a Polish guide, let him know if you are coming and if you need a place to stay!
